Description of intervention(s) / exposure
The experimental group members take part in climbing activities for the period of 12 weeks.
The participants undertook climbing twice a week under the supervision of a climbing instructor in a sports climbing hall with a professional climbing wall.
The activities take 60 minutes and consist of a general warm-up, climbing training and a cool-down part. Every group contained 10 - 11 participants.
The effectiveness of the exercise programme will be assessed based on testing the physical ability of the participants.
All the participants' motor ability will be tested using Eurofit Special and Eurofit tests, before and after the programme.
The balance of participants will be additionally tested on the BTS P-walk bar-resistant platform as well as using FRT – Functional Reach Test and Single Leg Stance Test.
All tests will be carried out by one researcher. The participants will also be requested to complete - with the help of a psychologist - a questionnaire prepared by the researcher testing their attitude towards physical activity and their attitude towards climbing activities.

Summary
Brief summary
Therapeutic climbing is a new approach which has been adapted from artificial rock climbing motions. It is currently used as physical therapy for orthopedic, neurological, and psychological diseases as well as trauma. Most studies to date have examined the effects of therapeutic climbing on physical and functional skills as well as its psychological impact; however, there is limited data regarding the possible effects of sport climbing respectively therapeutic climbing on persons with intellectual disability. Sport climbing offers many potentially beneficial effects for people with ID since there are effects on coordination, muscular strength, and cognition to name the most relevant ones. Therefore, the aim of this study is to examine physical fitness of adult women and men with severe and moderate intellectual disabilities under the influence of a 12-week climbing programme. I would also like to assess potential effectiveness of sports climbing activities as a form of physiotherapy.
