Registering a new trial?

To achieve prospective registration, we recommend submitting your trial for registration at the same time as ethics submission.

The safety and scientific validity of this study is the responsibility of the study sponsor and investigators. Listing a study does not mean it has been endorsed by the ANZCTR. Before participating in a study, talk to your health care provider and refer to this information for consumers

Intervention/exposure
Study type
Interventional
Description of intervention(s) / exposure
Two daily high glycemic index meals (breakfast and lunch). Participants are consuming corn flake cereal, whole milk, sports drink (high carbohydrate, water, and electrolytes replenisher), white bread, and margarine for the high glycemic index meal (glycemic index = 79). All Bran cereal, fat-free strawberry yogurt, grape juice, multi-grain bread, margarine, and apple are being provided in the low glycemic index meal (glycemic index = 28).

Comparator / control treatment
Two daily low glycemic index meals (breakfast and lunch). Participants are consuming corn flake cereal, whole milk, sports drink (high carbohydrate, water, and electrolytes replenisher), white bread, and margarine for the high glycemic index meal(glycemic index = 79). All Bran cereal, fat-free strawberry yogurt, grape juice, multi-grain bread, margarine, and apple are being provided in the low glycemic index meal (glycemic index = 28).

Outcomes
Primary outcome [1] 238191 0
Fat oxidation will be estimated with the oxygen consumption (VO2) and the carbon dioxide excretion (VCO2) values obtained through indirect calorimetry, using the Frayn (1983) equation.
Timepoint [1] 238191 0
At baseline and on day 5 of the test meal consumption (once a day)
Primary outcome [2] 238192 0
Energy intake assessed by food diary
Timepoint [2] 238192 0
At baseline (the week before participating in the study) and 24 h after the consumption of the last test meal on day 5
Secondary outcome [1] 242498 0
Respiratory exchange ratio will be assessed by indirect calorimetry
Timepoint [1] 242498 0
Baseline and on day 5 of the high glycemic and the low glycemic index sessions
